20+ Greasemonkey Scripts for Digg

Posted by hts | November 29, 2007 .

Digg is a great site, but as any other thing in this world, it has its flaws.
This list compiles a series of Greasemonkey scripts (small bits of Javascript which allow you to customise the way a page is displayed) for Firefox, which enhance the Digg interface and behaviour, for a better “Digging” experience.
You obviously need the Firefox browser, with Greasemonkey extension installed.

So here we go:

  • Digg No New Windows
  • Remove _blank target from links on digg so that it won’t open new windows for articles. Go to page

  • Multi-column digg
  • Rearranges Digg’s interface, displaying the news in columns, to make better use of the space available. Go to page

  • Digg AdBlocker
  • When Adblock Plus is not enough - removes the ads from Digg
    Go to page

  • Digg Lite
  • Strips bloated sections from digg and displays only the news (removes the right column, allowing the stories and comments to take up the full width and the page footer)
    Go to page

  • Only Digg News/Comments
  • Same as above - removes all content on Digg except News and Comments.
    Go to page

  • Search Most Dugg Stories
  • Changes Digg’s default behaviour when searching stories. Instead of displaying the newest stories, it displays the most dugg.
    Go to page

  • Digg Top 10 Direct
  • Replaces the links to the Digg comment page, in the Top 10 sidebar with links directly to the articles, for easier reading.
    Go to page

  • Digg Mirrors
  • Adds links to DuggMirror, DuggBack, Wayback Machine, Google Cache, Coral Cache, and DotCache at the end of every article title. Useful for viewing sites which suffered the “Digg effect”
    Go to page

  • Digg Menu
  • Changes the behavior of the Digg menu
    Go to page

  • Digg Picture Preview
  • Previews directly linked pictures on digg
    Go to page

  • Digg Nagger Removal
  • Removes some of the Digg annoyances/footer/featured video (same as some of the scripts above).

  • LightBox for Hyperlinks
  • This one is designed to open a hyperlink within a current page instead of jumping to a new page or opening a new window. The script will embed an IFRAME on the center of the page with a lightbox effect. Below the lightbox, there are two links available for you to choose: ‘Open in new window’ and ‘Open in current window’.
    Go to page

  • Digg Hide Buried Comments
  • Hides buried comments (and their children) on digg.
    Go to page

  • BROKEN
  • More like a funny script: replaces the word “BREAKING” with “LAME” on Digg stories. Good antidote to those who believe their old news is “breaking” :)
    Go to page

  • Digg Comment Enhancer
  • The Digg comment enhancer allows you to easily add mirrors and images to your digg comments and it displays image links and youtube videos directly in the digg comments, so you don’t have to click to view the picture.
    Go to page

  • Always Show Nested Comments
  • Forces digg to always show nested comments
    Go to page

  • Display friends diggs
  • Displays the list of your friends that have dugg an article under each story title.
    Go to page

  • Digg Deep
  • Bypass the Digg comments page and go straight to the story. Good for opening Digg pages in tabs via a feed reader like Google Reader.
    Go to page

  • Only Digg News
  • Another script to strip Digg of unused sections. Removes all content on Digg except News. [Hides Comments too]
    Go to page

  • New Tab on External Links
  • Adds a target_blank to off-site links so that they can open in a new tab and in the background (tabbrowser set appropriately)
    Go to page

  • Change colour of links by category
  • This script colourizes links on the index pages of digg based on their category.
    Go to page

Enjoy a better Digg!

Nice list. It’s interesting to see that Digg have implemented some of these features on the site now. They must be listening…

Still, there are plenty of features in that list that I will use.
